Description

A warm and hearty split pea soup enriched with the smoky flavor of ham, perfect for cozy dinners.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups green split peas
  • 1 meaty ham bone
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • 8 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the split peas under cold water, checking for any debris.
  2. Combine the rinsed split peas, ham bone, diced carrots, onion, potatoes, and broth in a large pot.
  3. Bring the pot to a rolling boil, then lower the heat to a gentle simmer.
  4. Allow the soup to simmer for about 60-90 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Carefully remove the ham bone, shred any meat off, and stir it back into the pot.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

This soup is even better the next day. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
