- 1 cup warm water
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
- Cheese sauce or preferred dip (for serving)
Instructions
- Combine the active sourdough starter, warm water, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently until well combined.
- Add the flour gradually, mixing until a soft dough begins to form.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Allow the dough to rest in a covered bowl for about 1 hour, until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the risen dough into small pieces and roll each into a bite-sized ball.
- Boil about 10 cups of water in a large pot and add the baking soda carefully.
- Boil the pretzel bites in batches for about 30 seconds each, then remove with a slotted spoon.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the pretzel bites, then sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with cheese sauce or your favorite dip.
