Description

Ingredients

  • 2 cups active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • Cheese sauce or preferred dip (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Combine the active sourdough starter, warm water, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently until well combined.
  2. Add the flour gradually, mixing until a soft dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Allow the dough to rest in a covered bowl for about 1 hour, until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Divide the risen dough into small pieces and roll each into a bite-sized ball.
  7. Boil about 10 cups of water in a large pot and add the baking soda carefully.
  8. Boil the pretzel bites in batches for about 30 seconds each, then remove with a slotted spoon.
  9. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the pretzel bites, then sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with cheese sauce or your favorite dip.
