Description

A comforting pasta dish featuring Italian sausage paired with a rich tomato sauce, fresh basil, and parmesan cheese, perfect for weeknight meals.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 24 oz tomato sauce
  • 12 oz pasta (penne or spaghetti)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 sweet onion, chopped
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a vigorous boil. Add your chosen pasta and cook according to package instructions until perfectly al dente. Drain well and set aside.
  2. Drizzle olive oil into your spacious skillet over medium heat. Let the oil heat until it shimmers.
  3. Toss in the chopped onion and minced garlic, stirring gently. Sauté until the onion turns translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove the casing from the Italian sausage and crumble it into the skillet. Sauté until beautifully browned, around 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour in the tomato sauce and stir to combine everything thoroughly. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
  6. Taste your sauce and season with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Gently toss your cooked pasta into the skillet, ensuring it’s well coated with the sauce. Add reserved pasta water if needed.
  8. Plate the pasta and sprinkle with freshly grated parmesan cheese and chopped basil before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, use fresh herbs and freshly grated cheese. Customize with vegetables or spices as desired.
