Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Candied orange slices for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or cooking spray, then lightly dust it with flour.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the orange juice and zest.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, folding gently.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, whipping until stiff peaks form.
- Frost the cooled cake with the whipped frosting and garnish with candied orange slices.
- Slice, serve, and enjoy!
Notes
Make the cake a day in advance and frost just before serving for the best texture.
