Description

A nostalgic and comforting cake infused with warm spices and topped with creamy frosting.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Cream together butter and sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one by one, mixing well after each, then stir in vanilla.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, starting and ending with flour.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and tap to release air bubbles.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Beat together cream cheese, butter, and vanilla until smooth for the frosting.
  10. Frost cooled cake layers generously and serve.

Notes

Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting to avoid melting.
