Description

Creamy and flavorful refried beans made easily in an Instant Pot, perfect as a side dish or a filling for tacos and burritos.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup dried pinto beans
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: chili powder, lime juice, fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse and sort the dried pinto beans under cold water to remove any debris.
  2. Combine rinsed beans with 4 cups of water, chopped onion, minced garlic, and cumin in the Instant Pot.
  3. Seal the lid securely and set the Instant Pot to high pressure for 35 minutes.
  4. Natural release the pressure for 10–15 minutes after cooking.
  5. Mash the beans using a potato masher or immersion blender to reach the desired texture.
  6. Season with salt and mix in optional chili powder and lime juice.
  7. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro before serving.

Notes

For thicker beans, use less water; for smoother beans, blend longer. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days.
