Creamy and flavorful refried beans made easily in an Instant Pot, perfect as a side dish or a filling for tacos and burritos.
Ingredients

- 1 cup dried pinto beans
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- Salt to taste
- Optional: chili powder, lime juice, fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse and sort the dried pinto beans under cold water to remove any debris.
- Combine rinsed beans with 4 cups of water, chopped onion, minced garlic, and cumin in the Instant Pot.
- Seal the lid securely and set the Instant Pot to high pressure for 35 minutes.
- Natural release the pressure for 10–15 minutes after cooking.
- Mash the beans using a potato masher or immersion blender to reach the desired texture.
- Season with salt and mix in optional chili powder and lime juice.
- Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro before serving.
Notes
For thicker beans, use less water; for smoother beans, blend longer. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days.
