Description

Delicious and soft hamburger buns made with sourdough discard, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup sourdough discard, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 teaspoon instant yeast in a mixing bowl. Whisk these dry ingredients together.
  2. Gradually add 1/4 cup warm water until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Divide the dough into equal portions, shaping them into buns.
  5. Place the shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, giving them space to rise.
  6. Let them rise for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

Consider making the dough a few hours ahead and refrigerating it for enhanced flavor.
