- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Combine 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup sourdough discard, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 teaspoon instant yeast in a mixing bowl. Whisk these dry ingredients together.
- Gradually add 1/4 cup warm water until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Divide the dough into equal portions, shaping them into buns.
- Place the shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, giving them space to rise.
- Let them rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
Consider making the dough a few hours ahead and refrigerating it for enhanced flavor.
