Description

Delightful biscuits with savory sausage and gooey cheese, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 3/42 cups buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup salted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and prepare your 9″x9″ baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat for about 8-10 minutes, then drain the excess fat on paper towels.
  3. Mix the flour, sugar, and baking powder in a medium bowl and whisk them together.
  4. Add buttermilk gradually, mixing until a sticky batter forms.
  5. Fold in the cooked sausage and shredded cheese gently without over-mixing.
  6. Layer the melted butter in the baking dish, then spoon the biscuit dough over the butter.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown, testing with a toothpick for doneness.

Notes

For maximum fluffiness, do not overmix the dough. You can prepare the dough a few hours in advance and refrigerate it before baking.
