Description

Delightful scones with a balance of sweetness and tartness, featuring dried cranberries and fresh orange zest for a burst of flavor.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Gently stir in the cranberries and orange zest.
  5. Whisk together the heavy cream and egg until smooth in a separate bowl.
  6. Add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and mix until just combined.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
  8. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges.
  9. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For best results, use cold butter and avoid overmixing the dough to maintain a tender crumb.
