Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- Oil for frying
- Chocolate or caramel sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Melt the butter: In a medium saucepan, combine the water and butter over medium heat until the butter melts completely, creating a fragrant base.
- Mix in flour and salt: Add the all-purpose flour and salt, stirring vigorously with a wooden spoon until a sticky dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Add vanilla and eggs: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract, followed by the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Your dough will become smooth and glossy.
- Heat the oil: In your deep fryer or large pot, heat oil to 375°F (190°C). Use a candy thermometer for precision.
- Pipe the dough: Fill your pastry bag with the dough and pipe small rounds into the hot oil. Fry them for about 2-3 minutes or until they’re beautifully golden brown and crunchy.
- Coat with cinnamon sugar: In a bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Remove the churro bites from the oil, and while they’re still warm, toss them in the cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
- Serve warm: Present your churro bites with a small bowl of rich chocolate or caramel sauce for glorious dunking.
Notes
For a lighter version, consider using an air fryer. Customize flavors by adding nutmeg or almond extract to the dough.
