Description

Warm and comforting candied yams that combine sweet yams with melted butter, brown sugar, and fragrant cinnamon, creating a perfect side dish for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large yams or sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel the yams and slice them into uniform rounds, about half an inch thick.
  3. Layer the yams in a baking dish, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
  4. Sprinkle with salt, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  5. Dot the surface with cubes of butter.
  6. Add water to the bottom of the dish to create steam.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for about 30-45 minutes or until fork-tender.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to caramelize the sugar.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For a twist, add vanilla extract or nuts for added flavor and texture. Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
