Description

A comforting blend of hamburger steaks and creamy sauce over mashed potatoes, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Mashed potatoes (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine ground beef, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a large bowl; mix gently and form into 6-8 patties.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, brown patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, and transfer to a plate.
  4. Whisk flour into the same skillet, then gradually add beef broth and milk, stirring until thick and creamy.
  5. Fold in sour cream and melted butter off the heat.
  6. Assemble in a greased baking dish: lay patties and pour sauce over.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the sauce bubbles and patties are cooked through.
  8. Serve over mashed potatoes if desired.

Notes

Make-ahead by preparing steaks and sauce a day in advance. Can also use ground turkey for a leaner option.
